Suntech and Zachry win solar contract

Suntech and Zachry have received a contract from Sempra Generation to design and construct the Mesquite Solar 1 project in Arizona, USA. As per the contract, Zachry will install and integrate more than 800,000 Suntech multi-crystalline solar panels at the site. Construction of the plant will begin mid-2011 with completion set for 2013. The plant will generate 350,000MWh of electricity every year, enough to power 50,000 homes. Pacific Gas & Electric will purchase the power generated from the plant under a 150MW (AC), 20-year power purchase agreement.

 

ThyssenKrupp Steel USA joins AISI

ThyssenKrupp Steel USA has become a member of The American Iron and Steel Institute. On 3 February 2011, the AISI board of directors accepted the company, which is headquartered in Calvert, Alabama, as a producer member at its quarterly meeting in Washington DC.

Sheffield Forgemasters wins multi-million order

Sheffield Forgemasters (Forgemasters) has won a large steel castings order from Allegheny Technologies (Allegheny) for three hot-metal mill-housing castings weighing between 150 and 275tns. 

Jacobs acquire majority of Aker’s P&C business

Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. has completed the acquisition of a number of Aker Solutions' operations within its Process and Construction (P&C) business area. The acquisition has a cash purchase price of USD 675 million, adjusted for cash and debt acquired.

RMT to build wind energy facilities

RMT has received a contract from Western Wind Energy for the construction of two wind energy facilities in the US. As per the contract, RMT has begun construction on the 120MW Windstar project in Tehachapi, California, and the 10MW Kingman project in Mohave County, Arizona.

USD 25 million surface treatment plant

Rockwood Holdings, Inc. and the Michigan Economic Development Commission will build a new USD 25 million manufacturing plant in Blackman Township, Michigan, for Rockwood’s Chemetall U.S. Inc. business unit.

ArcelorMittal, Nunavut change Baffinland board

ArcelorMittal and Nunavut Iron Ore Acquisition Inc. (Nunavut Iron), and Baffinland Iron Mines Corporation (Baffinland), which is 61% owned by Arcelor and Nunavut together, have announced changes to Baffinland's board of directors.

GE to supply gas turbines for Sravanthi Energy pro

GE Energy will supply gas turbines to Sravanthi Energy for its 450MW power project at Kashipur in Uttarakhand. GE will provide four gas turbines along with associated generators for the Sravanthi project, which is expected to be constructed in two 225MW phases.

MRL Industries becomes Sandvik Thermal Process

MRL Industries Inc. has changed its name to Sandvik Thermal Process Inc. Sandvik has owned MRL since 1999 but has been operating under its own name until now. MRL will continue to be used as a product trademark for parts of Sandvik’s semiconductor and solar industry related heating products.

ACCIONA builds wind farm

ACCIONA Energy has begun construction on its 132MW Dempsey Ridge Wind Farm in Oklahoma. The farm will be situated 15 miles west of the company’s 123MW Red Hills Wind Farm in Roger Mills County.
