Duplex

Duplex stainless steels have a ferritic-austenitic microstructure, in roughly equal proportions 50% ferrite and 50% austenite. Duplex combines many of the attractive properties of ferritic and austenitic stainless steels into one. They are designed to provide better corrosion resistance, in particular to stress corrosion and pitting corrosion. The microstructure leads to higher strength than standard austenitic stainless steels such as Type 304 or 316. Duplex stainless steels have become more and more popular in recent years.

Choose Weld Backing Tape to Support Weld Roots

Ceramic Backing Tape is often used to help support weld roots. However, with a melting point of 1,800ºC, concerns grow during TIG welding, where temperatures can reach up to 6,000ºC.

Weld purging stainless steel and CRAs at a distance

Huntingdon Fusion Techniques® (HFT®) has made it possible to have an immediate reading of a weld purge gas from any distance up to 1,000 metres away, with the PurgEye® 1000.The Weld Purge Monitor® has a stainless steel sensing head that can be fitted onto any pipe weld purging system, or can be left in the welding zone and have the oxygen levels transmitted electronically to a monitor up to 1 km away.“If exhaust gas from a normal weld purge system is piped down a hose to a distant measuring instrument, it may take many minutes, or even hours in some cases, to reach the sensor.
