Steel shipments lower for Jan. 2015

The US shipments of both steel and aluminum decreased from levels a year ago in January. Canadian results were similar.

In January 2015, US service center steel shipments decreased by 3.4 percent from January 2014. Steel product inventories increased 16.4 percent from January a year ago.

In January of this year, US service center shipments of aluminum products decreased by 2.7 percent from the same month in 2014. Inventories of aluminum products increased 7.6 percent compared to January last year.

In January 2015, Canadian service center shipments of steel products decreased by 10.2 percent from January 2014. Steel product inventories increased 19.6 percent from January a year ago.

In January, Canadian service center aluminum shipments decreased 2.9 percent from the same month in 2014. Inventories of aluminum products increased 13.4 percent from a year ago.
