JV for NALCO and NPCIL

NALCO will install a nuclear power plant in a JV with Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited at an investment of INR 12,600 crore. The venture comes as a result of a pact made by both organizations to explore a potential collaboration in the nuclear power field. The power project, to be built in Surat, Gujarat, will have a yearly production capacity of 1400MW. Two separate units of 700MW will be built as an investment of about INR 9 crore is required to generate one MW of nuclear power. Currently, NALCO operates a 1200MW coal based power unit at its existing aluminum operation in Orissa.
