FNX suspends production

FNX, which mines mainly nickel and copper in Canada’s Sudbury Basin, will halt nickel output at its McCreedy West mine and extend the suspension of nickel production at its Levack mine, where it initially halted production in October. FNX will retain about 375 jobs and will continue to produce copper and precious metals from both mines, and also from the nearby Podolsky footwall deposit, which it is currently ramping up. They will also focus on developing their high-grade Levack footwall copper deposit, which should come on line next year. FNX expained that they may restart nickel operations if prices recover significantly.
