Corrosion in SDSS welds

In the article ‘Embrittlement and sensitization to corrosion in super-duplex stainless steel welds’, written by Vahid Hosseini, Research Project Leader of the Department of Engineering Science at University West, we focus on how super-duplex stainless steels have excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance, but they can become sensitive to corrosion attack and embrittlement after welding, particularly in multipass welds.

“In this paper, an insight into phenomena causing sensitization and embrittlement of super-duplex stainless steel welds is reviewed,” Hosseini writes. “This information may help to improve welding procedures and thereby expand the usage in more critical applications.”
