V&M Star names new president

V&M Star’s COO, Mr Joel Mastervich, will become the next president, succeeding Mr Roger Lindgren, who will retire in late April after leading the steel tube pipe maker into a USD 650 million expansion project.

Johansen to lead Alaska Ops

ConocoPhillips has announced that, effective 1 April 2010, Trond-Erik Johansen, currently president of its SE Asia Exploration and Production organization, will become president of its Alaska operations.

Metso to supply grinding equipment

Metso has announced that it will supply a complete ball mill and related equipment and services to Canada-based Kinross Gold Corp. for its Morro do Ouro Mine in Paracatu, located 230km south from Brasília.

Brazilian iron ore project

Shandong Steel has signed MoUs with Shandong-based Xinwen Mining Group and Hong Kong-based Honbridge Holdings to jointly develop the SAM iron ore project in Brazil. Xinwen Mining Group will be responsible for the prospecting and preparation work before the start of the project and for negotiations on coordination of iron ore exploitation after the start of formal operation of the project.

Stainless steel structure for Las Vegas

Architect Frank Gehry has built a swirling stainless steel structure in Las Vegas. Mr Gehry, now 81, has built his career on shapes and angles all around the world: Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles; the Pritzker Pavilion in Chicago's Millennium Park; Seattle's Experience Music Project; the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain.
