RTI reports

US-based titanium producer RTI International Metals reported net income for 2008 of USD 56.2 million, down from USD 92.6 million in 2007 as the titanium market was affected by both Boeing 787 production delays and the significant deterioration in the global economy.

AKS stainless steel surcharge

US-based AK Steel Holding Corp. (AKS) has advised customers that it's rolling over a USD 165-a-short-ton surcharge on invoices for electrical stainless steel products delivered in March after having applied the same charge on products delivered in February.

Victory Nickel announces board changes

Victory Nickel Inc. has announced that Wayne Whymark has resigned from the Board of Directors. Mr Whymark joined the Board of Directors in October 2008 pursuant to the Support Agreement entered into by Victory Nickel and Independent Nickel Corp.

Rolled Alloys expands duplex line

Rolled Alloys has announced an expanded line of AL 2003 lean duplex stainless steel plate and sheet products. Rolled Alloys now includes up to 1in thick and 96in wide plate products.

Abrasives for stainless steel

Rex Cut Products, located in Fall River, Massachusetts, has released an expanded line of synthetic fiber abrasive products that provide smooth, controlled operation on stainless steel, aluminum, and exotic alloys.

Stainless steel unit delayed

ThyssenKrupp will delay the start of stainless steel production at its USD 4.5 billion Alabama plant because of economic conditions, but the move is not expected to affect carbon steel operations, which represent the lion's share of the project.

Universal Stainless reports income

Universal Stainless & Alloy Products, Inc., a North American distributor of Stainless, Nickel, Aluminum, and Special Alloys, has reported that sales for the fourth quarter of 2008 rose 15% to USD 57.1 million compared with USD 49.6 million in the fourth quarter of 2007.

Vale halts nickel shipments

Vale do Rio Doce, the world’s second-largest nickel refiner, has halted concentrate shipments from Newfoundland and Labrador until an agreement can be reached with the Canadian province on a proposed processing plant.
