Combining the best features of glass and metals to create amorphous metals, this development could potentially replace steel in buildings, cars or bridges.

ThyssenKrupp opens new facility

ThyssenKrupp Steel USA and ThyssenKrupp Stainless USA officially opened their new steelmaking and processing plant in southeastern USA.

Construction on ThyssenKrupp meltshop begins

Construction on ThyssenKrupp Stainless USA's meltshop in Alabama is set to commence. The meltshop, designed to produce stainless steel slabs, will consist of a 160 ton electric arc furnace, 180 ton AOD converter (Argon Oxygen Decarburization) and a 1900mm continuous caster.

U.S. DOE guarantees loan for wind project

U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu has announced that a partial loan guarantee for a USD1.3 billion loan has been finalized to support what is being called the world's largest wind farm.

Steelworks produces its first seamless pipe

Vallourec and Sumitomo Tubos do Brasil Ltda (VSB), a JV formed by Sumitomo Metal Industries, Sumitomo Corporation and Vallourec, began a test operation at their integrated seamless pipe steelworks. They successfully pierced their first billet at 9:00 p.m. local time on 11 December 2010.
