Applications

Stainless steels are a suitable materials for many applications where both the strength of steel and corrosion resistance are required. It is resistant to corrosion, staining and stainless steel can be rolled into sheets, plates, bars, wire, and tubing for a variety of applications. Below you can find news on the application of stainless steels in a broad variety of industries, such as architecture, oil and gas, shipbuilding and heat exchangers. If you wish to include your newsrelease on Stainless Steel World Americas and email newsletter, please feel free to contact us.

HiP releases new stainless steel valve

High Pressure Equipment Company (HiP), has introduced a new soft seat relief valve. The new valve, featuring a 316 stainless steel body, has been designed to protect liquid and gas tubing systems for over-pressure damage and failure. The new relief valves are available in pressure ranges from 1,500 to 25,000 psi for 9/16 inches outside diameter (OD) tubing with adapters for other available sizes.Outlet connections are ½-an-inch National Pipe Tapered (NPT).

Residual stress in DSS applications

In his case study, ‘Detecting residual stress in duplex stainless steel applications’, Raymond Cordewener, Eng., Consultant, writes about how duplex stainless steel is considered a perfect material and has many benefits as a main material of construction for applications in the industrial sectors.

Dormer Parmet adds stainless steel body options

The range of solid carbide heads – for steel, stainless steel and cast iron – are married together with a hardened steel body.

QuickPurge® Systems for large stainless pipes

Restricting the volume when welding large stainless steel tube and pipes can save huge amounts of time and inert gas costs.

Lincoln Electric introduces stainless flux-cored wires

Lincoln Electric® has introduced the UltraCore® stainless steel flux-cored, gas-shielded wires available in commonly-used austenitic grades for flat and all-positional applications.

Cortec introduces water-based coating

VpCI®-386 is a fast-drying, water-based acrylic one coat system (topcoat) that can be applied DTM (direct to metal) for corrosion protection in outdoor unsheltered applications.

Cortec aids to sustain wind farm applications

Wind and solar power are fast becoming the renewable energies of choice in countries across the globe. Offshore and onshore wind energy is emerging in and around the seas of the world.

Corrosion in SDSS welds

In the article ‘Embrittlement and sensitization to corrosion in super-duplex stainless steel welds’, written by Vahid Hosseini, Research Project Leader of the Department of Engineering Science at University West, we focus on how super-duplex stainless steels have excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance, but they can become sensitive to corrosion attack and embrittlement after welding, particularly in multipass welds.“In this paper, an insight into phenomena causing sensitization and embrittlement of super-duplex stainless steel welds is reviewed,” Hosseini writes.

Strengthening 3D-printed titanium with copper

A collaborative project researching alloy composition and grain microstructure has addressed a common problem often experienced when titanium is 3D-printed.Current titanium alloys used in additive manufacturing often cool and bond together in column-shaped crystals during the 3D printing process, making them prone to cracking or distortion.

Spirax Sarco adds stainless to control valve line

Spirax Sarco US has announced the addition of stainless steel to its Spira-trol™ line of modular control valves, which ship in four days or less through the company’s Quick Ship program.
