A small device made for extreme conditions

California-based Elma Electronic has introduced the rugged, small-diameter MR50 1/2-inch rotary switch for portable, mobile, and space-constrained devices that operate in harsh environments.

The multi-function MR50 features a zinc die-cast housing with nickel plating, solid gold contacts, and a sturdy stainless-steel shaft, as well as the option of IP68 front panel sealing.

The switch provides reliability in extreme conditions, as well as precision selection with as many as 16 selector positions that offer tactile feedback, even when the user is wearing gloves.

Its operating temperature ranges from -45° to 85°C. Although the standard MR50 version is one-pole, there are two- and three-pole versions planned shortly. The series meets MIL-STD-202G standards for humidity, vibration and shock.

Typical applications include avionics, military targeting, military communications, cockpit controls, and transportation-related devices.
