A quick release for magnetic materials

JW Winco, a Germany-based company with locations across North America, has recently started to offer the GN 124.1 Quick Release Pins, which are used for quickly fixing, connecting, and locking various parts and workpieces, made of magnetic materials.

“As quick release pins are some of the most universal and frequently-used standard parts across many technical applications, we are excited to have improved our pins by eliminating the mechanical retainers, as a strong magnet takes care of the necessary axial hold,” said John M. Winkler, CEO, Office of the President at JW Winco.

A neodymium magnet is recessed into the underside of the bolt and axially retains the bolt in its inserted position. Any high-quality surfaces with perpendicular locating holes will promote magnetic flux to produce excellent axial retention.

“The materials of the locking pin are selected so that the magnetic flow is not hampered, and the holding strength can be utilized. Instead of a tactile latching action, the magnetic pin orientates its correct position as soon as the magnet contacts the holeÂ’s edge,” Winkler explained.

The pins are available with customized specification for diameter and lengths, and will allow for attaching retaining cables or ball chains that protect from losing the pins.
