Bakken Pipeline approved by NEB

The National Energy Board (NEB) has approved Enbridge Bakken Pipeline Company Inc.’s Bakken Pipeline Project Canada application. The Bakken Pipeline is to connect the Enbridge Pipelines Inc. Mainline to supply the US Midwest and eastern Canadian markets. This continuous source would help refineries in the regions maintain long-term competitiveness. To transport crude oil from the Bakken and Three Forks Formations in Montana and North Dakota to refineries across North America, Enbridge Bakken applied to construct and operate a new pump station and 123.4km pipeline. The pipeline will start in Steelman, Saskatchewan and link to the Mainline in Cromer, Manitoba. The NEB determined that the oil supply markets and commercial interest will be sufficient to support the use of the projected production of the pipeline’s economic life. The Boart has also allowed Enbridge Bakken to acquire and operate Enbridge Pipelines (Westspur) Inc.’s Line EX-02. The capital cost estimated for the project is CAD 120.1 million and is expected to be in service in early 2013.
