Sojitz raises molybdenum output

Sojitz Corp. said that its molybdenum mining JV in Canada will raise its annual output capacity 60% to 7300tns in 2011 to prepare for future growth in demand. The company will be expanding and upgrading equipment at the Endako mine in the province of British Columbia. These efforts are estimated to cost JPY 45 billion. Sojitz owns a 25% stake in the mine, so the firm will shoulder about JPY 11 billion of the planned investment. Canadian-based mining company Thompson Creek Metals Ltd, which controls the other 75%, will put up the rest of the money.
