Wire rod mill order reinstated

ArcelorMittal Monlevade SA Brazil’s wire rod mill order from SMS Meer has been reinstated. The initial order for a single strand wire rod mill has changed to a two strand high performance mill as per the company’s expansion plans. SMS Meer will deliver a walking beam furnace, complete media supply systems, mechanical and electrical equipment for the mill train, finishing facilities for the wire rod coils and rolling and cooling technology. The walking beam furnace will have a capacity of 180tns/hr with billet dimension of 160mm x 160mm or 155mm x 155 mm. SMS Meer will supply a six stand, two strand roughing mill of horizontal housing less stands. The two single strand wire rod outlets have a ten stand wire rod block, a cooling and equalizing unit, and a water cooling unit downstream of the wire rod block. The mill will have an annual capacity of 1 million tns/yr with a maximum rolling speed of 120m per second for 5.5mm wire rod.
