Welding grade 91

In their article, ‘Welding Grade 91 with dissimilar metals’, Paul Murphy from Masteel U.K. Ltd, and Dr. Sarinova Simandjuntak from the University of Portsmouth, U.K., talk about a project that originally started in late 2013 that examined the integrity of welding grade 91, which is a high chromium alloy steel, to stainless steel grades 304 and 316.

“G91 is a commonly used material in high temperature power plants due to its high temperature creep resistance,” Murphy and Simandjuntak explain. “Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding was used to ensure a high quality weld with minimal defects and inclusions.”
