Wärtsila was awarded three operations and maintenance (O&M) contracts for power plants in Brazil. A global supplier of power plants and services, Wartsila will operate, maintain and supply labour and parts for Borborema Energética’s Campina Grande power plant located in Paraiba, Brazil. Currently, the plant operates on heavy fuel oil, generating 164MW of electrical output from 20 Wärtsilä 20V32 engines to the national grid. Campina Grande will run in hot stand-by mode with minimal notice switchover capability, in order to feed baseload power to the national grid. The second contract, awarded by Maracanaú Geradora de Energia is for the company’s power plant in Ceará, Brazil. The plant outputs 168MW generated from eight Wärtsilä 20V46F engines also running on heavy fuel oil, providing flexible power to the national grid. The third contract is with Linhares Geração and it involves running and maintaining their 204MW gas power plant located in Linhares, Espirito Santo. The plant contains 24 Wärtsilä 20V34SG gas engines; the electricity generated is for stand-by power for Brazil’s hydro generation. As hydro power is responsible for 90% of Brazil’s electricity, all of the plants will be operational for 2000hr/yr from December to April, when water reservoirs are down. The first two contracts are for five years and the third one is for two, making Wärtsilä responsible for the operation and maintenance of 15 power plants in Brazil. The O&M agreement covers installations, planning, everyday operations, administration, training, technical support logistics management and security.
