Vale strikers get new rules

Striking Vale Inco miners in Sudbury, Ontario, have new restrictions on their picket lines. On 28 November 2009, Ontario Superior Court Justice Robbie Gordon handed down his interpretation on the original injunction governing picket line protocol. Judge Gordon says cars can only be delayed 15 minutes by the time they arrive in the lineup to get in the property, and not at the picket line. He adds Vale Inco should make efforts to reduce the number of cars crossing the line. More than 3000 members of the United Steelworkers have been on strike at Vale Inco facilities since July 2009. At issue are proposals by Vale Inco to reduce a bonus tied to the price of nickel and and changes to the employees’ pension plan.
