USA: south Texas nuclear plant

According to a schedule released by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), NRG Energy and Toshiba Corp. could receive a Combined License for the proposed 2700MW South Texas nuclear project by 2012. The NRC schedule allows NRG and Toshiba to work on detailed design and construction schedules for the two-unit expansion, from first concrete pour to fuel load and startup. Based on the schedule, Nuclear Innovation North America – the nuclear development company jointly owned by NRG Energy and Toshiba – anticipates receiving the COL for the two new units in 2012. An Advanced Boiling Water Reactor design selected for South Texas Project Units 3 & 4. NINA submitted a part II federal loan guarantee application in mid-October 2009 to support construction.
