Toshiba America Nuclear Energy Corp. plans to build an engineering center in North Carolina. The center will open in August, and is part of Toshiba’s expansion of its nuclear power businesses and support for utility customers in the US market. Employment is expected to reach 200 over the next several years. Toshiba set up its US nuclear corporation in January 2008. Major utilities in the US have announced plans to build over 30 new nuclear power plants in coming years. Toshiba and Westinghouse, a Toshiba unit, are lobbying to win orders for both advanced boiling water reactors and the Westinghouse AP1000 nuclear power plant and their related systems.
