US environmental contracts for AMEC Foster Wheeler

Amec Foster Wheeler secured two contracts by Freeport-McMoRan for the design and supply of a new wet flue gas desulphurisation system at their existing copper smelter facility in Miami, Arizona, USA. The value of the contracts has not been announced.

Under the contracts, Amec Foster Wheeler will provide a new scrubber vessel equipped with a dual flow tray to optimise sulphur dioxide reduction, spray nozzles, recycle pumps, and mist eliminators, as well as engineering and site supervision services. Commercial operation of the unit is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2017.

“With environmental legislation becoming increasingly stringent, Amec Foster Wheeler is proud to deliver products, technologies and services that help our clients solve their environmental challenges”, said Byron Roth, Amec Foster Wheeler president, Environmental & Industrial, Global Power Group. “Our flue gas desulphurisation systems have been successfully operating in the power, municipal solid waste, steel, aluminium and other processing industries for more than 40 years.”
