Understanding NDTs: A metallurgist’s perspective

In her article, ‘Understanding non-destructive testing from a metallurgist’s perspective’, Candace Allison from Stainless Steel World Americas, speaks with Alex Thurston, a Metallurgist with Olympus Corporation. Thurston shared his background, and the benefits of using NDT, especially when it comes to stainless steels and corrosion-resistant alloys (CRAs), and his predictions for the future of the NDT industry.

“NDT is critical for getting engineered, manufactured materials and goods to customers while helping to ensure a high level of quality in the delivered part,” Thurston says. “During the lifecycle of the part, NDT can be used to provide engineering assessments on areas or parts of interest, without causing damage to the specific area undergoing the test or requiring removal for outside analysis, saving time and money.”
