U.S. Steel to Restart Granite City’s Blast Furnace B to Support Customer Demand

U.S. Steel to Restart Granite City’s Blast Furnace B to Support Customer Demand

Driven by customer demand and as part of the U.S. Steel’s ordinary course of business planning, U. S. Steel has begun the process to restart the operation of one of two blast furnaces (“B”) at Granite City Works.

According to the company, it spent months analyzing customer demand before deciding to restart the blast furnace. U.S. Steel is confident in its ability to operate the mill to meet 2026 demand, even though the steel industry is highly competitive.

Additionally, it looks forward to partnering with stakeholders — including United Steelworkers and elected officials — to ensure a safe and efficient startup of the furnace.
