Titanium & the aerospace industry

This research article that appeared in the August issue of Stainless Steel World Americas examines the relationship between titanium and the aerospace industry. The two are very much economically linked but not mutually exclusive.

Aerospace is one of the largest and most important sectors in the world as well as being one of the fastest growing industries across the entire United States. Over the past approximately 10 years, the aerospace industry has more than doubled its profits going from USD $369 billion in 2004 to over $746 billion in 2014. In 2016 the sector was responsible for supporting 2.4 million American jobs, making $872 billion in sales, and reducing the American Trade deficit by $90.3 billion. It is predicted that this growth will only continue with industry experts forecasting that passenger demand for airline travel will only rise exponentially, growing 5% each year over the next 20 years with approximately 35, 318 new aircraft expected to be built during that specific time period.
