Tillsonburg new home for Siemens facility

Siemens has selected Tillsonburg, Ontario, for its Canadian wind turbine blade manufacturing site. The factory will be located in an existing 253,000sq/ft facility that was originally opened in 1975. This will be the company’s first manufacturing plant for wind turbine components in Canada and represents an investment of over CAD 20 million. The facility will allow Siemens to help Samsung and Pattern Energy meet their contractual requirements to supply 600MW of renewable energy to Ontario. The factory will produce all of the wind turbine blades for Siemens projects in the province. The company currently has eight projects with a capacity of approximately 950MW commissioned or in progress in Ontario and Manitoba. It is expected that Canada’s wind power capacity will increase to more than 15,000MW by 2020, providing 11% of the country’s total power generation. Renovations to the Tillsonburg facility will take place immediately with completion set for October 2011.
