ThyssenKrupp Nirosta will provide stainless steel from Germany for New York’s new landmark, the One World Trade Center. The corners of the skyscraper’s facade will be edged with stainless steel. ThyssenKrupp produced the material for the landmark using a customized rolling and heat-treatment process at its Dillenburg plant. Christian Pohl GmbH (Cologne), their partner company, will fabricate 250 tons of the material into complex facade elements for the corners of the Trade Center. The outer facade of the skyscraper will be made of glass; above the 60m high base, the metal frames surrounding the glass panes will be clad with stainless steel panels. The 40in x 160in facade elements are being made from the corrosion-resistant, chromium-nickel-molybdenum stainless steel alloy Nirosta 4404, with a textured finish “Laser” specifically designed for this project. The landmark will be 417m tall, topped with a 124m antenna. The total height of exactly to 1776ft is in reference to the American Declaration of Independence from 1776. A museum and memorial to the victims of September 11, 2001 will be adjacent to the tower.
