The RedDot Stainless Steel While-In-Use Box and Cover System, new from Memphis, Tennessee-based Thomas & Betts (T&B), protects electrical devices in harsh environments, including those that are susceptible to liquid ingress and corrosion. The National Electrical Code (NEC) requires that electrical wiring devices used in wet locations be protected, even when the cord is plugged into the receptacle. Requirements for outlet box covers have become stricter in recent years in response to demands for durability, especially in high-traffic areas.
The new system is made of 316 stainless steel, for increased corrosion resistance. The systems smooth, sloped surfaces allow maximum runoff and eliminate water collection points. It is configurable to a variety of sizes and types of outlets.
Given increasingly stringent requirements imposed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), the need for liquid ingress protection and corrosion resistance in electrical devices is particularly acute in the food and beverage processing industry.
