Surtech’s ISOJET III stainless weld cleaner

The new ISOJET III weld cleaner, available from Surtech, uses a thermochemical method to remove oxide layers from stainless steel, which is faster, less hazardous and more environmentally friendly than grinding, brushing, shot blasting and chemical processes with aggressive pickling pastes.

The apparatus’s wand and electrolytes—selected specifically for this process—remove only the oxide layers generated by the heat treatment. This guarantees that the optical surface smoothness is fully preserved. The cleaned workpiece just has to be rinsed with clean water and protected with a spray to preserve the passive layer required for the corrosion resistance of the steel.

The ISOJET III is attached to a 230V or 110V electrical supply with an adjustable constant current. The electrolyte is applied by dipping the wand into the fluid and then moving it over the discoloured weld at a rate of up to 2m/min, leaving a clean surface on both grained and polished stainless steel.
