Steel company partners with high school

In McMinnville, Oregon, US, a new partnership has been established between Cascade Steel, McMinnville High School, and Chemeketa Community College. The goal of the partnership is to help both students and adults gain welding skills. Cascade Steel will provide equipment – 11 state-of-the-art welding stations – replacing a set dating back 40 years for Mac High. Mac High will be providing the space and teachers for teens while Chemeketa will be providing the curriculum and instructors for adults. About 240 Mac High students will be enrolled in welding this year. One of the benefits of this partnership is the ability for students to learn on the kind of equipment that would actually be used on the job site. It will also allow them to develop skills for today’s industry standards. After school hours, the Mac High welding shop will be available as a training facility for Cascade employees. Cascade steel ran its first course there over the summer.
