In his market report, The pharmaceutical opportunities for stainless steel suppliers, Robert McIlvaine, President of The McIlvaine Company, discusses how stainless steel systems and components have become a major buying point for pharmaceutical manufacturers, with applications such as valves, pumps, and filters being priced higher per unit volume for the pharmaceutical industry, than they are for other industries.
Performance requirements are high due to larger purchases being made for components used to manufacture the product, as opposed to being used in cooling or water intake. The most in-demand stainless materials are currently 304, 304L, and 316L for pharmaceutical applications, McIlvaine writes.
