Special Metals Corp. will relocate operations from Rockford, Illinois, to Elkhart, Indiana, generating up to 100 new jobs by 2014. The producer of high-nickel, high-performance engineering alloys will move its A-1 Wire division, which manufactures stainless steel and nickel alloy wire, to its 50,000sq/ft plant in Elkhart. Created when Special Metals Corporation of New Hartford, N.Y., acquired Inco Alloys International in 1998, the company is recognized for alloys engineered to provide a combination of resistance to heat and high-temperature corrosion. Around 85% of all alloys manufactured by Special Metals were invented in its laboratories.
