Siemens VAI has received an order to expand the Monlevade LD Steel Works in Brazil. The expansion will be highly effective for the steel mill, doubling its capacity by 2012. Siemens VAI received an order from ArcelorMittal Monlevade S.A. to provide core components for the expansion of the João Monlevade steel mill in Minas Gerais. The project is valued at EUR 20 million and is scheduled for completion in 2012. As per the order, Siemens will supply equipment for an LD converter, the hot metal supply and the associated secondary dust cleaning systems. Siemens VAI will design and provide the hot-metal desulfurization station, ladles, deslagging stands, the ladle and slag pot transfer cars, and the necessary electrical and automation equipment. The contract also includes two secondary dust-cleaning systems with cleaning capacities of 800,000 and 1,000,000 m3/h respectively.
