Talen Energy Corporation, headquartered in Allentown, Pennsylvania, has awarded Siemens long-term service contract extensions for the Lower Mount Bethel and Ironwood combined-cycle gas power plants in Pennsylvania (PA), USA. In addition to extending the parts and services contracts, the new agreements also feature a number of solutions and contractual enhancements designed to improve the operational flexibility, availability, and performance of the gas turbines (GTs) at the facilities. Many gas turbines use a corrosion resistant alloys for their construction.
“As two of Pennsylvania’s most efficient power plants, it is important that these key energy-producing facilities continue to receive reliable service and maintenance,” said Craig Weeks, CEO of Siemens Power & Gas Services Business Unit. “Siemens is uniquely positioned to provide the required maintenance and performance services and we look forward to bringing our many years of experience and proven expertise to help these plants operate efficiently for many years to come.”
The Lower Mount Bethel power plant is a 623-megawatt (MW) rated natural gas-fired combined-cycle power plant located in Bangor, PA. The plant began operations in 2004. The new long-term agreement at Lower Mount Bethel covers scheduled maintenance activities, spare parts, power diagnostics and performance monitoring for the plant’s two SGT6-5000F gas turbines for the next 20 years.
The Ironwood power plant is a 705-megawatt (MW) rated natural gas-fired combined-cycle power plant located in Lebanon, PA. The plant began operations in 2001 and was one of the first plants in the U.S. to operate the SGT6-6000G gas turbine. The new long-term agreement for Ironwood covers scheduled maintenance activities, spare parts, power diagnostics and performance monitoring for the plant’s two SGT6-6000G gas turbines for the next 13 years.
