Siemens expands additive manufacturing portfolio

Siemens AG, whose US headquarters are located in Washington, D.C., has acquired a majority stake in Materials Solutions Ltd., which specializes in the additive manufacture (AM) of superalloy parts, and other applications in stainless steel, duplex and nickel. Materials Solutions uses selective laser melting technology for the production of high-performance metal parts. The company makes turbomachinery parts, particularly for high-temperature applications in gas turbines, where accuracy, surface finish, and the highest quality of the materials is critical to ensure operational performance.

Additive manufacturing is a process that builds parts layer-by-layer from sliced computer-aided design (CAD) models to form solid objects.
