Sandvik extends life of high speed railway

Sandvik, a developer and manufacturer of products in advanced stainless steels and special alloys, with locations throughout the Americas, has contributed towards the completion of a new high-speed rail system in Norway. Sandvik Sanmac® 2205 duplex stainless steel hollow bar was used for construction of the Holmestrand station, part of the transport infrastructure.

Sanmac® 2205 duplex (austenitic-ferritic) stainless steel was chosen for critical ‘hanger’ components based on an entirely new hollow bar design. The hangers will support a section of the 12 km long high speed rail tunnel which includes the station. The choice of duplex was specified by Ramboll, the engineering company for the project, after it was determined that the construction must remain maintenance free for 100 years.
