Saipem has received an EPC onshore contract with Husky Oil in Canada. The CAD 1 billion contract is part of the first phase of the Sunrise Oil Sands project. Sunrise is an in-situ oil sands development 60km northeast of Fort McMurray, Alberta that will produce bitumen through steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) technology. The steam heats the bitumen allowing it to flow and enabling extraction. The contract consists of engineering, procuring and constructing Central Processing Facilities (CPF) capable of producing 60,000 barrels of bitumen per day. The CPF will consist of two 30,000 barrels per day facilities (Plant 1-A and Plant 1-B) that use Once Through Steam Generators (OTSG) for steam production and a warm lime softening process for water treatment. Saipem’s responsibilities include oil treatment, produced water de-oiling, water treatment and steam generation, and production and storage of produced bitumen.
