For the production of accurate holes in stainless steels, Guhring has developed the new RT 100 VA drill family. The RT 100 VA is especially suitable for use with stainless steels due to three primary factors: Guhring’s micro-fine grain carbide substrate, which allows for sharper cutting edges and greater transverse rupture strength; nano-ATM heat- and wear-resistant PVD coating, which remains stable in operations with temperatures as high as 1470F; and new VA point geometry and flute profile, designed for controlled chip formation and free-cutting action. The drills have dual helical coolant ducts through the tool, providing optimum coolant delivery to the cutting edges. The specialized VA point geometry creates short, manageable chips which are easily evacuated from the hole. There are two series available as stocked standards for the RT 100 VA: Series 8510 drills to 3 times its diameter, and Series 8511 drills to 5 times its diameter. Both series are stocked in diameters from 3.0 to 20.0mm, with both fractional and metric sizes.
