REpower signs wind project contracts

REpower Systems AG has signed two contracts for Canadian wind projects. As per the contract, the company will cover the delivery, installation and maintenance of 55 REpower MM92 CCV turbines specifically designed for cold climates. 40 turbines will go to the Saint-Robert-Bellarmin wind farm located between the cities of Lac-Mégantic and Saint-Georges-de-Beauce in Quebec. The remaining 15 turbines are to be installed at the Ganaraska and Whispering Woods wind farms in Oshawa, Ontario. With a total rated output of 80MW, construction on the Saint-Robert-Bellarmin project is set to begin in the summer of 2011. The Saint-Robert-Bellarmin wind farm was one of the projects chosen at the outset of a public invitation to tender launched by Hydro-Québec for the installation of 2000MW of wind energy. As per the tender conditions of Hydro-Québec, REpower will generate a minimum of 30% of the added value with the wind turbines in the Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine region and the Matane regional county municipality. REpower will cooperate with local companies by supplying towers, blades and converters for the construction of Ganaraska and Whispering Woods.
