Petrobras to upgrade and expand plant

The Usina Termelétrica Luis Carlos Prestes power plant, owned and operated by Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras), is expanding its generation capacity. When it began operation in 2003 as a 240MW simple-cycle power plant, the facility utilized an Alstom generator and four GE 6FA turbines fired by natural gas. Now, the plant is being converted into a 2x2x1 combined cycle facility, and Emerson Process Management is installing its PlantWeb digital plant architecture with Ovation expert control system to monitor and control four new CBC Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs) that will feed two new Siemens steam turbines. The steam turbines will generate an extra 128 MW of electricity. The plant is expected to be in full production in July 2011.
