North American Stainless, a member of the Acerinox Group, is celebrating 35 years in business. During these years, it has become the largest fully integrated stainless steel producer in the United States.
To commemorate this milestone, the company recently hosted a celebration. It brought together employees, government officials, vendors, suppliers and customers. Acerinox CEO Bernardo Velázquez Herreros was also in attendance.
Founded in 1990, North American Stainless sold its first coil of stainless steel in early 1993. Since then, NAS has grown to become the largest fully-integrated stainless steel supplier in North America.
Through 13 expansions, NAS has invested $3 Billion at its 1,600-acre site and employs over 1,700 people.
Its most recent major expansion and modernization investment, announced in 2024, is still underway, including building a new cold rolling mill, roll grinders, an extensive upgrade of its annealing and pickling line, a new temper mill and the expansion of the Melt Shop Building to include a 400-metric ton crane. This expansion and modernization increases NAS’ annual total production capacity and presents the company with an opportunity to counter subsidized imports and continue its market technical leadership.
