Nippon Steel Corporation has been selected to receive the 2020 Award for Excellence in Corporate Disclosure (26th) in the Steel/Non Ferrous Metal Industry Category, sponsored by the Securities Analysts Association of Japan (SAAJ).
The SAAJ has established objective review criteria to determine the relative excellence of companies’ disclosure based on their quality, quantity, timing, and other factors. On this basis, the SAAJ has created the Award for Excellence in Corporate Disclosure for the purpose of promoting and improving companies’ information disclosure, and has given out the award to selected companies annually since 1995. In fiscal 2020, a total of 299 companies in 18 industries were screened for the award.
The review criteria consist of five areas:
1) Management’s involvement in investor relations, the function of the companys investor relations department, and the company’s basic approach to investor relations
2) Disclosure in briefings, interviews, presentation materials, etc.
3) Efforts aimed at fair disclosure
4) Disclosure of information related to corporate governance
5) Voluntary disclosure of information befitting the circumstances of each industry
In the managements involvement in investor relations area, Nippon Steel was ranked first place in the industry category and was recognized that the top management strived to earnestly communicate to the financial markets and its message became more clearly conveyed. Concerning the voluntary disclosure of information area, the Company was highly evaluated for the enhancement of IR briefing materials on topics of interest, in addition to holding a special briefing on sustainability and visits to steelworks. Overall, the ratings of all criteria improved from the previous year, leading to the Companys receipt of the 2020 Award for Excellence in the industry category.
