Nippon Steel Corporation and Vale Sign Memorandum Regarding Decarbonization Solution

Nippon Steel Corporation and Vale S.A. one of the world’s foremost mineral resource companies, have signed a memorandum for the purpose of strengthening their relationship and considering and discussing specific strategies, with the aim of realizing carbon neutral steelmaking processes.

Based on this memorandum, Nippon Steel and Vale will engage in joint research regarding the utilization of raw materials which contribute to DRI(direct reduced iron), green mold pig iron, green briquettes, and other carbon neutral steelmaking processes, and will pursue the possibility of realizing these.

In March of 2021, Nippon Steel announced “Nippon Steel Carbon Neutral Vision 2050,” positioning environmental issues on a global scale as a vital issue forming the foundation of business management and aiming for the consideration and execution of various measures.

By constantly pursuing the world’s top technology and manufacturing capabilities, Nippon Steel will continue to contribute to social development through activities that are in line with the “Social Development Goals” (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations.
