The Nickel Institute has just released the new report called Nickel in Tomorrow’s World: Tackling Global Challenges. It focuses on how nickel contributes to technologies to help create a more sustainable society and economy that will meet the needs of a growing global population.
Nickel metal is tough, malleable and highly resistant to corrosion. Materials containing nickels, like stainless steels, therefore have a long lifespan and require much less maintenance compared to other alternative metals. It is also beneficial that nickel is light and can reduce the overall weight of any given product, which also helps to reduce the energy needed for producing and operating those products. Nickel also is well suited to the recycling industry because it retains its value at end-of-life and reduces wastestream.
“Some of society’s greatest challenges include reducing energy consumption and assuring access to safe food, clean water and advanced healthcare for citizens,” said Tim Aiken, President for The Nickel Institute. “The Nickel Institute’s latest publication is part of our ongoing commitment to educate and inform our stakeholders on the essential role nickel plays in industrial applications to address these grand challenges.”
