New Southern Research Institute director named

Dr. Mark Berry has been announced as the new Director of Environment and Energy Operations at the Southern Research Institute in Alabama.
 
Dr. Berry is a greatly esteemed R&D professional in the electric utilities industry and is a world-renown expert in the control of vapor phase mercury and particulate matter via electrostatic precipitation, fabric filtration, selective catalytic reduction and flue gas desulfurization equipment. Up until recently, he was Manager of Environmental Assessment for Southern Company’s Research and Environmental Affairs.
 
He hold four patents for technical approaches to control emissions from coal-fired plants and helped form the state-of-the-art Water Research Center (WRC) in Cartersville, Ga., which finds news ways to reduce, conserve and improve the quality of water that is produced by power plants.

Johns, vice president of Engineering. “Dr. Berry brings all of those qualifications and more.
