Michael C. Arnold will succeed Stephen E. Makarewicz as President and CEO of Ryerson effective 10 January 2011. Makarewicz, who announced his intention to retire in May 2010, will leave the company once the transition is complete. A University of Akron graduate, Arnold has a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering as well as master of business degree in marketing and sales. He continues to serve on the university’s Engineering Advisory Council and is also a member of The University of Akron Foundation’s Board of Directors. Currently, Arnold holds the position of president of Timken’s Bearings and Power Transmission Group. He is also the executive vice president for The Timken Company which manufactures steel, bearings and associated components.
