New connectors meet demand for nontoxic applications

TE Connectivity has released its new line of rugged Amplimite D-subminiature (D-sub) connectors. This new line has put the same corrosion resistance of connectors made with cadmium into an environmentally-friendly, stainless-steel housing that meets the performance requirements of MIL-DTL-24308, which offers up to 500 hours of resistance to salt spray in harsh environments.

Militaries are continuing to move away from products that contain cadmium, in order to become more environmentally friendly, therefore looking to use more products like the Amplimite D-sub connectors, that continue to maintain durability standards, TE’s Aerospace Defense and Marine division Product Manager, William Newton, explained.

TE’s new Amplimite D-sub connectors have passivated stainless-steel shells and comply with Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directives, and are available in standard density 20 or high density 22 AWG crimp contacts.
