Westlake Chemical Corporation, a leading manufacturer of petrochemicals, polymers and building products, has opened their new chlor-alkali plant in Geismar, Louisiana.
The facility has the capacity to produce 350,000 electrochemical units (ECUs) per year and uses the state-of the-art membrane technology. It is adjacent to the existing vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) facilities at the Geismer complex and has added 70 full-time positions.
Combined with the existing membrane chlor-alkali capacity at Calvert City (Kentucky’s vinyls complex) Westlake will be able to produce up to 650,000 ECUs per year at these two sites.
