In a continuation from last week’s article, ‘Material selection for offshore piping systems: Cost aspects (Part 2 of 2)’, John Ole Gjerp, Senior Principal Engineer of Materials Technology at Aker Solutions, talks about the process of picking the correct materials for offshore piping systems, while keeping in mind costs.

“Titanium is the technically preferred metallic material, but its high cost limits the use to locations where conditions prohibit the use of less expensive materials. Application of the cost calculation model gives the following comparison graph, where titanium is the basis for comparison.”
