Alacero, the Latin American Steel Association, recently released a report detailing the amount of steel imports from China. In the first bimester of 2017, China exported to the world 12.8 million tons (Mt) of steel. Of that amount, 1.3 million tons (Mt) were shipped to Latin America.
Latin America accounted for 9.9 percent of total global exports, standing at third place as ChinaÂ’s preferred destination. The main destinations for Chinese steel in Latin American during the first bimester of 2017 were Chile, Central America and Peru.
In the first two months of the year, the countries that increased their imports of Chinese steel were Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Dominican Republic and Argentina.
