Latin American 2015 steel imports up/exports down

The Latin American Steel Association (Alacero) recently reported that finished steel production dropped 3%, while imports increased 6% in Latin America, in the first half of 2015, as compared to the same time period last year.
Finished steel refers to steel included in one of these 3 groups:
– Flat steel, including stainless steel, sheets, coils, etc.
– Long products, such as reinforcing bars, wire rods, rails, etc.
– Seamless tubes.
The largest increases in consumption were recorded in Mexico (with an additional 1.2 million tons and an increase of 10% compared to 2014) and Ecuador (with a 73 thousand additional tons, up 9% compared to 2014).
Alacero is a special consulting organization to the United Nations and is recognized as an international non-government organization by the Republic of Chile, host country of Alacero´s headquarters.
